I am lucky in the fact that I have a small room off my kitchen that serves as the kids playroom. It is conveniently located close enough that the kids are not too far yet a distance that allows me to get something done during the day...like eating. The mess is contained (most of the times) to this area and cleans up in no time due to the system I implemented.
Lucky for me my Dad is quite handy and built me this unit to stash away the TV, VCR and CD player. The numerous shelves are a perfect fit for all of the totes filled with small pieces of assorted toys. This became especially important with the arrival of Dane and the fact that he puts anything and everything (edible or not) in his mouth. These totes are labelled for specific items and Landon has been trained (brainwashed) early to take down few at a time making the task of cleaning up bearable.

The bottom two fabric boxes is where I stash the soft, plush and more importantly, safe baby toys. He can easily grab and haul down a box of goodies and amuse himself while the older one plays with the larger toys.
This next piece was picked up on clearance at Winners and is where I store most of the trucks and other wheeled toys. On top I placed three plastic lidded boxes, one for wooden blocks another for plastic animals and the final is filled with magnetic letters. The two boards on either side were lovingly made by my hubby using a piece of sheet metal for one and an old chalkboard that he framed and painted for another. The little school desk and child's table were picked up at auction for next to nothing and is the perfect size for him to have a late afternoon snack on.
The cage on top of this piece is home to our "mop top have no idea which is the front or back" guinea pig named Sheldon. For now he is out of harms way up there but I have fished out my fair share of stray Lincoln logs from his food dish. This bottom is the perfect spot for several plastic labelled buckets filled with wooden blocks, lego and the complete family of potato heads.

The student desk and side table were both picked up at antique auctions for next to nothing and are perfect for an afternoon snack or playing trains on. The tall piece behind the desk is useless but is decorative enough to display stuffed animals after we securely anchored it to the wall.

This setup is working for us now but I know we will soon have to make some adjustments. I already have an idea in my head on how I would like to see this decorated. Now I have to start convincing my hubby that it needs to be redone.
