FrugalFridays-754123-720528 I mentioned in an  earlier post how much I love my coffee.  When the sun rises so do my kids, so that steaming cup of java better be waiting for me with a heaping tablespoon of whitener (I know it's bad for me but I'm not ready to give it up).  On occasion (aka every evening) l like to spice up my latte with something more than the regular flavoured beans.  I have come up with quite a collection of recipes that I found online and made up a chart that hangs in my coffee cupboard where it can be easily referred to.  When I find a new one that I would like to try I simply edit my saved word file, reprint and replace.  All of these mixes can be made up ahead of time and stored in a container to be added to boiling water.  The majority of the time I simply add instant coffee to a regular cup of hot chocolate and that satisfies my craving for coffee and chocolate. What can be better than those two combinations?

coffee chart

CAFÉ MOCHA

1 ½ cups instant coffee

¼ cup cocoa

¼ cup whitener

6 tablespoons icing sugar

Place in food processor and grind. To serve place 1-2 teaspoons in 3 cups of boiling water

MOCHA ESPRESSO COFFEE

½ cups instant coffee

½ cups sugar

2 cups dry milk powder

½ cup whitener

¼ cup cocoa

¼ teaspoon cinnamon

¼ cup instant vanilla or chocolate pudding mix

put in food processor and place a small amount in boiling water

So if you love coffee like me check out some of these spots to get some ideas to spruce up your coffee mocha.  You never know it may even keep you out of Starbucks for a day.

Re: Creative coffee

I feel somewhat freakish because I've never liked the taste of coffee...and I envy the energy my friends who drink (tons) of it have. Oh well.

Re: Creative coffee

So I checked the link anyway, and Hillbilly housewife has a variety of drink mixes...which you already know.

Thanks!

Re: Creative coffee

I have tried those recipes before and you are right they taste great. I did give them up however, since they are so bad for you! Why can't chocolate and coffee be "health foods"??? Great blog, by the way! I like to think of myself as a minimalist and a purist as well.

Re: Creative coffee

Oh, boy, do I love my coffee in the morning. "Give me all your Folger's and nobody gets hurt"--that's my 'famous' line. I prefer liquid creamers and always try to get them on sale. Same with the Folger's--it's expensive, so I get it at a discount store for about half what I'd pay in the grocery and always buy 2 at a time to keep on in my 'stockpile.' I'm frugal in many ways...but if I had to, I'd cut out something else in order to be able to get my coffee, LOL!
