Renovation Woes
Wow even the Professional organizer gets challenged during renovation time. We have demolished our sons bedroom to rebuild new study and bedroom. Both boys are squished into the one room and the rest of the house has stuff in places it does not belong.
I must admit I have resolved to "Get over it" until after the builders have gone. As walking around with blinkers on is better than stressing about how the house is not as organised as usual.
Sometimes you just have to let go.

Re: Renovation Woes
I remember that when we renevoated the kitchen we had to get take out for 2 weeks - every night. Can you believe that we actually couldn't wait till we could cook, shop and eat at home ... never satisfied :)

Good luck with the chaos - focus on the end result and remember to take as many deep breathes as needed (without inhaling the dust of course)

Re: Renovation Woes
Hi Wendy,

I too am in the middle of renovations to my 140 year plus home. Just finished the kitchen renovation, boy the stuff that is stored in all those cabinets and drawers is overwhelming when you have it spread out all over the house. However, you are right you just have to put blinders on and get over it, or drive yourself crazy constantly shuffling and restraightening only to face it again the next day. One thing I had to do right away was find a new temporary home for my car keys, as they were always hung up in the kitchen. The first few days the keys got placed in differnet locations and found me searching the house to find them buried under something that got moved by someone else. You need those car keys when you need to escape the chaos!!

Wendy, I have to tell you my answer to renovation: buy a new house! Sounds crazy but when we were thinking of remodeling our 25 year old kitchen and upgrading our basement, I had to be realiistic. Are we really the renovating kind? I knew in my heart that my husband would hate a 6-8 week renovation and the stress for me to 'keep it on budget' would be hard, not to mention the chaos for my three very young kids (at the time). So eventually we found the house of our dreams with an updated kitchen (I just had to change the cabinet door knobs/pulls and the light fixtures) and a huge beautifully finished walk-out basement.

The worst thing my husband had to do was pack a few boxes. No dust or eating take out for us. I give you credit because I know we could not have gone through a renovation. Good luck!
